Affiliate links in HTML: preserve identifiers without clicking

Content updated:

Scope: Documentation reviewed on 15 October 2026. Examples are fictional and tests are proposed; CallsIQ has not performed product tests.

Short answer

Compare the parsed HTML href with the exact registered URL. HTML entities can represent characters without changing destination; unauthorised parameter edits may change it. Local checking detects differing links but establishes neither redirection, attribution, programme approval nor payment.

Key verification: The parsed href exactly matches the registry and the test sends no network requests.

Sources and limitations

You paste a link and source code displays &. This may be legitimate HTML representation or double escaping; visible text alone cannot distinguish them. This guide provides a reproducible check without opening commercial links or creating artificial clicks.

Registry first, parsing second

Reditus explains where links are obtained and the effect of changing a slug. Retain the supplied URL before editing content. Avoid invented parameters or borrowing another programme’s format. Attribution still depends on conditions and the advertiser’s system.

Original offline example

from html.parser import HTMLParser

class Links(HTMLParser):
    def __init__(self):
        super().__init__()
        self.urls = []
    def handle_starttag(self, tag, attrs):
        if tag == "a":
            self.urls.append(dict(attrs).get("href"))

expected = "https://example.invalid/?ref=demo&source=guide"
markup = '<a href="https://example.invalid/?ref=demo&amp;source=guide">Tool</a>'
page = Links()
page.feed(markup)
assert page.urls == [expected]
print("URL preserved; no network request")

Domain and parameters are fictional rather than a Reditus contract. The HTMLParser documentation explains HTML interpretation. Here &amp; represents & inside an attribute; &amp;amp; would produce a different value. Avoid repeatedly decoding a URL without knowing its context.

What remains unverified

The program compares one literal sample. For your page, inspect generated HTML plus label, placement and disclosure. Correct href does not establish an active link. Attribution verification needs the programme’s authorised procedure and evidence rather than repeated arbitrary clicks.

Use and scope

CallsIQ has generated no Reditus test click. The code locally demonstrates attribute parsing rather than querying programmes or commissions. Manual review may suffice for few links while retaining one authoritative registry of supplied URLs.
