CRM click-to-call: correct dialling and activity logging

Content updated:

Short answer

CRM click-to-call should open the correct number and line and save activity in the intended record. Distinguish a browser extension from a CRM integration, and test one workstation before enabling it for the whole team.

Key verification: Check the number, opened application and saved activity after a test call.

Sources and limitations

Dialing from a CRM card avoids copying the phone number to another window, but it is only useful if the correct number is called and the result is in the expected record. Set up a workstation and a test contact first. Don't turn on autodialer for the entire team without checking what exactly each click does.

Browser extension or CRM integration

An extension converts visible numbers to dialing links. An integration can add a call control within the CRM and relate the activity to the commercial record. Check both behaviors separately: opening the phone does not prove successful syncing.

The CloudTalk extension detects numbers on pages and allows you to choose whether a click dials automatically. Its integration with HubSpot documents calls from contacts, companies or businesses and subsequent recording of activity. Official extension and use with HubSpot .

Configuration decisions

CRM click-to-call: correct dialling and activity logging: table 1
Question Prudent Initial Option Test
Is it marked on click? Check destination before starting, if configuration allows Click does not produce unexpected call
What phone to use? Business field validated with international prefix Contacts with multiple numbers
What line does the agent present? Assigned business number Recipient identifies and can call back
Where do you register? File corresponding to the contact and the operation History before and after the test

These are acceptance criteria, not capabilities that are attributed to all extensions. If your CRM or plan does not allow one, document the manual procedure that replaces it.

Activation on a test station

  1. Check CRM permissions and that the telephony account is that of the intended agent.
  2. Install the extension from the provider's official link and check the browser permissions.
  3. Log in to the extension and calling application.
  4. Configure the marking behavior based on the risk of accidental clicks.
  5. Opens a fictional file with a test number and a secondary number.
  6. Place the call, add a note, and locate the activity on both systems.

Also check a card without a telephone number and another with an incorrect format. The goal is to detect errors before using real contacts. Don't add every number that a page detects to a campaign: some may belong to third parties or not be authorized recipients.

Diagnosis: the dialler opens but no activity is logged

Notes the caller ID, selected contact, agent and time. Check that the integration is connected and what fields or activities it supports. If you signed up for another listing, look for shared identities or sync rules; repeating the call does not fix a wrong association.

If two applications respond to the same link, check the system call handler and active extensions. Change a single condition and repeat the fictional contact. Save the settings that worked for the rest of the team.

Measure improvement

In an internal test, count eliminated manual steps, calls directed to the wrong number, and activities that require repair. Don't attribute an increase in sales to the button without other evidence. The visitor telephone click measurement addresses another problem: here the click is made by your agent to initiate an outbound call.

Purchase conditional on the result

CloudTalk is an option if you need integrated trade marking and logging. Confirm the connector, fields, permissions and plan for your CRM. If you only need to launch calls and your current system does it correctly, the existing extension or feature may suffice.
