How to check every month how Hiya, Truecaller and Google identify your business numbers

Content updated:

Short answer

Call from each number to test mobiles of your own on different operators and with Google's Phone app, Hiya and Truecaller, and record in a sheet which name or warning appears. Repeat the round every month and seven days before each campaign. Register the number where allowed, such as Hiya Registration or Truecaller for Business, without expecting guarantees. In Spain, commercial calls must come from the 400 range.

Key verification: Compare this round's sheet with the previous one and postpone any number that shows a spam warning.

Sources and limitations

To find out how apps and networks identify your business numbers, call from each number to test devices of your own on different operators and with different apps, and record in a sheet which name or warning appears. Repeat the check every month and seven days before any outbound campaign. Where a service allows it, register or claim your business name, bearing in mind that no registration guarantees how the call will be displayed.

What this review covers and what it does not

This guide is preventive: it regularly checks numbers that, in principle, are working well. If you already see a spam label, follow the diagnosis in business number flagged as spam. If the recipient sees a different number from the one you chose, first review how to display your business number: there is no point measuring the reputation of a line that is not the one being presented.

None of the actions described here "cleans" a reputation. Identification engines use their own data and criteria, which they do not publish; what you can do is spot a change early, correct the data that depends on you and avoid launching a campaign with a number that already shows a warning.

According to Google's Phone app help page, caller ID can show information about businesses that call and warnings of possible spam; the user can tap "Not spam" or suggest a caller ID, and to change a business's name or phone number the page points to that business's information on Google.

What is different in Spain: the 400 range and calling line identification

Spain has no public registry equivalent to the US one. What it does have are rules on which numbering may be presented. Order TDF/149/2025 requires operators to block calls with an empty caller ID or with an unallocated Spanish number, and calls arriving from abroad with Spanish numbering except in roaming cases; it also prohibits the use of mobile numbering for customer service and unsolicited commercial calls.

The Resolution of 14 April 2026 allocates the 400 range to commercial calls. After a six-month period from its entry into force, companies within the scope of Law 10/2025 may only make commercial calls from that range, subject to the exceptions in that law. 400 numbers cannot receive calls, and the CNMC, Spain's telecoms regulator, decides which operators can obtain them and supervises compliance. Before the campaign, check with your adviser whether this applies to you and with your provider which 400 number will be presented.

Registering or claiming your name where allowed

  • Google: review the name and phone number in the Business Profile for your customer service number, which does receive calls.
  • Hiya: its Hiya Registration announcement describes free, self-service number registration, with the option to upgrade to Hiya Connect to display branding. It talks about reducing the risk of labels, not about guaranteeing anything.
  • Truecaller: the European launch of Truecaller for Business (October 2025) describes verified caller ID with name, logo and badge, and flexible plans with no published price. Ask for terms for Spanish and 400 numbers.
  • United States: the Free Caller Registry only accepts 10-digit US numbers, warns that registration does not guarantee redress and is not used to display the caller name.

Terms from Google, Hiya, Truecaller and the US registry were consulted on 22 October 2026. Truecaller does not publish prices and Hiya does not detail the cost of displaying branding: ask for both in writing for your Spanish numbers.

Worked example with fictitious data

A fictitious company has two numbers: one from the 400 range for the campaign and one geographic number for customer service and callbacks. It sets up three test mobiles with SIMs from three different operators and checks three layers on each call: the Phone app, Hiya and Truecaller. Each number generates 3 × 3 = 9 observations, and the two numbers 18 per round. At about 5 minutes per observation, a round takes 18 × 5 = 90 minutes.

In the round before the campaign, 16 observations show what was expected. There are 2 deviations: Truecaller shows a spam warning for the 400 number on one operator, and the Phone app shows only the geographic number. The deviation rate is 2 / 18 = 11.1%. The second does not block the campaign: the Business Profile details are reviewed. The first does require a stop: the launch of that number is postponed and the diagnosis is opened.

Schedule and checks before launch

  1. Run a full round every month, another seven days before each campaign and another after changing provider or number.
  2. Check that the presented number is the assigned 400 number when the call is commercial.
  3. Confirm that any Hiya or Truecaller registrations you hold are still active and have the correct details.
  4. Check that the list excludes anyone who asked not to be called, as explained in the guide on exclusions in outbound campaigns.
  5. Save the sheet with its date: it is your baseline for spotting changes in the next round.
