Short answer
Before vectorising a logo, seek the original vector file or best authorised image. Use PowerTRACE where appropriate and review shapes, text and sizes; tracing does not recover missing details or automatically preserve the brand.
Key verification: Compare outlines and readability at actual size and retain the source reference.
Sources and limitationsTo convert a raster logo into a scalable resource, first obtain the best authorized image and check if a vector original exists. The desired result is a file with verifiable shapes and text that can be reused at various sizes. Vectorizing does not recover details that were never in the image.
Check if you need to vectorize
Request the owner for the original logo and its rules of use. An SVG, PDF, or editable file may contain vectors, but the extension does not guarantee this: some documents include only a pixel image. Inspect the content before starting a conversion.
If only a small JPEG exists, distinguish the symbol from the text. It may be more reliable to reconstruct letters with an authoritative typography than to draw blurry outlines. Maintain proportion and avoid adding invented details that alter the brand.
Documented CorelDRAW workflow
Corel introduces PowerTRACE for converting bitmaps to vectors and explains importing and reviewing the trace in its official tutorialOfficial source . Your vectorization guide Official source describes presets for different image types.
Import a copy and choose a starting point suitable for the symbol. Adjust the result by observing edges, gaps and colors. Don't accept the plot just because the preview looks similar when displayed small.
Original quality sheet
| Item | Common Issue | Review Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| Contour | Teeth or lumps of the JPEG | Continuous curve consistent with the original |
| Gaps | Interiors closed by the layout | The necessary spaces are maintained |
| Colors | Compression variations | Match approved reference |
| Text | Deformed letters | Verified reading and proportion |
| Complexity | Unnecessary nodes | Editing practicable without altering the form |
The worksheet does not enforce a universal maximum number of nodes. A complex symbol may require more geometry than a simple one. Simplify should preserve form, not just reduce file size.
Test the vector asset at several sizes
- Compare original and vector in an overall view.
- Magnifies to locate contour defects and gaps.
- Reduce to the minimum expected size and check readability.
- Tests light and dark background if both uses are allowed.
- Export the agreed format and open it in another application.
- Request owner approval before replacing brand resources.
A file with curves may still look bad when reduced. If a simplified version is needed, treat it as a variant that requires approval, not a silent logo fix.
Delivery and scope
Preserve editable, export and version reference. Indicates whether the text uses fonts or outlines and what dependencies the recipient needs. The control of a final art for printing is carried out later, depending on the destination medium.
CallsIQ has not vectorized this example in CorelDRAW. The file is its own resource and the flow is documentary. Use the original vector when it exists; evaluate PowerTRACE when the conversion is necessary and you can review its result.
