Short answer
Prepare a brief covering activity, authorised location detail, scope, figures with periods, images and contact. Check evidence for each claim and record who approves the version. An unsupported draft is not ready for publication; provider writing assistance does not replace the owner’s review.
Key verification: Review claims, figures and images and retain an approved preview with its version and owner.
Sources and limitationsTo prepare a business-for-sale listing, create a brief containing approved public information, internal evidence and a person responsible for changes. The result is a verifiable draft to submit to a platform, rather than a valuation or transaction file.
Agree the scope with the provider
World Businesses for Sale describes listing preparation in its service catalogue. Confirm the work included in your proposal: do not assume every option includes photos, translation, unlimited revisions or approval before publication.
Agree which business is advertised and who can authorise publication. Decide which information can be public and which questions must be referred to the responsible person. Prepare a working copy first, separate from client documents and confidential material.
Original listing brief template
| Section | Draft content | Pre-publication check |
|---|---|---|
| Activity | What the business does and for whom | Current, verifiable description |
| Location | Area and relocation possibility | Authorised public detail |
| Scope | What is proposed for sale | Consistent with the owner's instructions |
| Figures | Period, currency and definition | Evidence and approval of the figure |
| Images | Files and descriptive caption | Usage permission and no unnecessary data |
| Contact | Owner and channel | Receipt and response checked |
A figure without a period or definition should not become a sales claim. Keep pending items visible in the draft and remove claims you cannot substantiate. The platform may help with writing; the owner still needs to review the accuracy of the material they approve.
Worked editing example
Fictional example: “Profitable agency with loyal clients” neither explains the activity nor provides evidence. A more specific draft would be “Web maintenance agency working remotely; the proposed scope and commercial information will be supplied through the agreed channel.” To add figures, the responsible person must approve their values, periods and meaning first.
During image review, a dashboard screenshot containing client names is rejected for the public listing. Replace it with an authorised image or a clearly labelled fictional sample. Reducing its dimensions alone does not conceal the data.
Draft acceptance checklist
- Read the listing as someone unfamiliar with the business.
- Check each claim against its evidence.
- Review figures, photos and the contact channel.
- Record the version, date and approving person.
- Request a preview before authorising publication.
