Short answer
Sequential dialling allows contact review and call control; parallel dialling requires available agents and rules for discarded attempts. Compare useful conversations and complete follow-up as well as time, and confirm the documented mode in your plan.
Key verification: Verify what someone hears when answering a discarded attempt before a live campaign.
Sources and limitationsChoose sequential dialing if you need to review each contact, prepare the conversation, and control when it is called. Consider a parallel mode when you have a large list of contacts you can legitimately call, the agent is available to respond immediately, and you can control what happens to discarded attempts.
For a small team returning quote requests, I would start with a flow of one call at a time. The potential wait reduction of a parallel dialler should be evaluated along with the lost preparation and experience of people receiving a non-conversation attempt.
What each mode does
| Criterion | Sequential | Parallel |
|---|---|---|
| Active attempts per agent | One at a time | Several simultaneous depending on configuration |
| Preparation | Allows a focused review of each contact record | The agent must be prepared for the contact that answers |
| Rhythm | Advance contact by contact | Advance by groups of attempts |
| Critical check | When the next call starts | What happens to other attempts when connecting one |
| Result to compare | Useful conversations and complete monitoring | The same results, adding discards and incidents |
“Sequential” here describes one line at a time. The start of the next call can be manual or automatic depending on the product. Don't deduce behavior by words like power, smart or AI: look at the entire path from the contact record to the outcome record.
What versions do vendors document
CloudTalk introduces AI Sales Dialer as its current product, with sequential and parallel modes. Identify Power Dialer as an old version with no new features, and Smart Dialer as a separate collection and calling tool from pages or CRM. Current CloudTalk versions and modes .
In the current CloudTalk sequential mode, the agent reviews the contact, initiates the call, and records a result. Its parallel mode supports between two and five lines, connects to the first contact that responds and discards other attempts. Requires a Parallel Calling plugin and license per agent using it. Sequential mode and Parallel mode .
Aircall documents Power Dialer within Professional as a call list with auto-advance and time between conversations for notes and tags. It is another implementation of contact-to-contact work. The cited documentation does not prove that it includes parallel dialing. Aircall Professional Features .
Estimate the improvement that would be valuable for your process
Fictional example of a sequential block of work: twelve four-minute conversations, twelve one-minute follow-up check-ins, and thirty twenty-second no-response attempts. The total of these components is 48 + 12 + 10 = 70 minutes, not counting additional preparation or breaks.
In that example, attempts without a response total ten minutes. Even if you managed to eliminate all that waiting, there would still be at least sixty minutes of conversation and registration. It is an arithmetic limit of the example, not a prediction of software performance.
If the main problem is that the agent is slow to find information or write notes, change that process before paying for more lines. If a considerable amount of time is spent waiting for responses, a dialling trial can provide useful information.
Prepare a comparison that respects the contact
Use comparable lists of people who have requested contact or for whom you have verified the legitimacy of that call. Keep time slots, reasons for contact and agent groups comparable. The technical availability of the dialer does not grant authorization to call.
- Define a useful outcome: need understood and next step accepted.
- Record attempts, people reached, useful conversations and work time.
- Record cuts, silences, unexpected returns, and do not call again requests.
- Check that the history allows you to avoid repeating a contact that has already been attended to.
- Set a stop condition if an experience appears that your team cannot resolve.
Do not present “calls made” as if they were all conversations. In parallel, it expressly asks what someone who responds to a discarded attempt hears and how it is recorded. Use authorized test contacts to check before an actual campaign.
Decide with a purchasing worksheet
The file can collect product version, available mode, necessary licenses, preparation time, treatment of discarded attempts, registration in the CRM and procedure to pause. Ask the supplier for a demonstration of each point that is essential.
Maintain sequential mode if individual preparation and conversation continuity are more valuable than the waiting time you could save. The parallel deserves evaluation when this wait is a measured problem and the test demonstrates an acceptable path for the contacts. Then review the metrics of the team with the same result criteria.
